The Amature Paleontolgist's Guide to
This is a great sight for collecting Turritellas. They're fragile, so great care must be taken when digging them out. Suposedly there are shark teeth and tympanic bones from whales, but I've never found any.
Directions: Take Rt. 210, Indian Head Hwy towards Old Fort Road. Just south of Old Fort Road, the highway crosses Piscataway creek. The fossils are located on an eroded bank on the north side of the creek, a short scramble from the south bound side of the highway. you can park on the north bound side as well and cross under the bridge. I'm not sure if you can park on 210, but the guys who are always fishing here do. If you get a ticket, it's not my fault.
Fossiliferous Formations: The Eocene Nanjemoy Formation and the Miocene Calvert Formation both crop out here. The Nanjemoy contains the turitellas. I've had difficulty finding the Calvert.
