The Amature Paleontolgist's Guide to
Because Maryland begins with the Atlantic Ocean and cuts across the Appalachian Mountains it has many distinct landforms. These landforms are divided into five distinct physiographic provinces: the Allegheny Plateau, the Valley and Ridge, the Blue Ridge, the Piedmont and the Costal Plain. All five run along the East Coast from Newfoundland to the Gulf of Mexico.
For more information about the geological formations found in these geologic provinces, check out the geologic maps.
